A flurry of goals on the last day of the season sees Barton crowned Midlands One champions and promoted back up to the Midlands Premier division.
A resounding 10-4 victory away against Bridgnorth coupled with Rugby & East Warwick only being able to beat relegated bottom club Burton 4-1 meant that Barton moved from 2nd to 1st in Midlands One to be crowned league champions.
Barton knew that in order to win the league they needed to win and better Rugby's goal difference against Burton. With Rugby top and Burton bottom and already relegated, Barton thought Rugby would win with a large score line and therefore knew they would have to score a lot of goals if they were to have any chance of overtaking Rugby's goal difference and therefore win the league.
Barton started the game as the dominant side with Bridgnorth happy to sit deep and soak up pressure. Barton took the lead 5 minutes in after Ash Parr won a penalty stroke with the ball hitting a defender on the line. Barton skipper Adam Foster stepped up and converted the penalty stroke to give Barton a 1-0 lead. Although Bridgnorth were sitting deep and absorbing pressure they also had quick forwards who posed a threat on the counter attack. This paid off for Bridgnorth almost immediately as they broke from defending a penalty corner and equalised. Barton bounced back immediately and Ash Parr and Ben Elson both scored 2 goals a piece before the half-time interval along with Jacob Foster rounding off a penalty corner move. Bridgnorth managed to score another goal on the break to give Barton a 6-2 lead going into the half-time interval.
The message at the half-time interval was to keep pressing forwards in search of more goals and to do so with patience but also ensure goals conceded was kept to a minimum to maximise the goal difference.
The second half saw Barton score 4, concede 2 and have probably at least another 8-10 chances go begging. They went 7-2 up 5 minutes into the 2nd half. A fine piece of individual skill from John Hickman saw him beat 2 players with an elaborate spin and then play the ball down the line to Craig Tilke. Tilke cut in field before sending a pass into the path of the breaking forwards Barton skipper Adam Foster who trapped the ball and slotted it into the bottom corner. Foster soon has his hat-trick after fine work from Will Rawbon and Ash Parr saw Parr work his way into the D before calmly squaring the ball to Foster to tap in. Parr then completed his own hat-trick before setting up Jacob Foster for his 2nd. At the other end Bridgnorth's chances were limited and stand-in keeper Luke Hogwood made a handful of saves but couldn't prevent 2 of the shots going in. This gave a final score line of 10-4 to Barton but as they didn't know the Rugby v Burton result so were unsure if they had done enough to be champions. 10 minutes after the final whistle they received a phone call informing them that Rugby had only managed to beat bottom placed Burton 4-1 and as a result confirmed Barton as champions of Midlands One and promoted back up to the Midlands Premier division.
