Match Preview

Barwell travel to Tamworth FC in the Southern League Challenge Cup on Tuesday 10th September. Both sides had big wins in the FA Cup at the weekend and will be looking to continue that form in to this match.

Barwell were able to beat Step 5 side AFC Mansfield 4-1 at home whilst Tamworth overcame local A5 rivals Nuneaton Borough 3-1. In the last league outings the Canaries beat Kings Langley 3-1 and Tamworth overcame Hitchin Town away from home 3-0. Tamworth sit 8th in the table and Barwell 12th.

As a local team, we are no strangers to Tamworth and have played them a few times in pre-season games. Last season we met in the league and the league game at The Lamb finish 3-3 on New Years' Day, with Tamworth winning 1-0 at Kirkby Road in late April as the season drew to a close. Gareth Zimmerman, coach at Barwell, will be returning to The Lamb for the first time since leaving as their U21 Manager.

Tonali Omotola grabbed his 4th goal of the season on Saturday in the FA Cup and he is fast becoming a fans favourite. Following the win over AFC Mansfield he told us about his early days at Barwell: "I am loving it really. The lads and the staff have been great. The gaffer has told me what he wants from me and he believes in my ability. That gives me a lot of confidence to play well and score."

Barwell are expected to be at almost full strength with the return of Jamie McAteer rumoured to be close as his recovery from injury is almost complete. Having used three goalkeepers already this season, Guy Hadland is hoping to be able to find someone who can make the number 1 shirt their own. Tristan Dunkley must also be in contention for a start after his impressive 40 minutes as a sub at the weekend. His fabulous back heel for the 3rd goal, and his first for the club, will have not gone unnoticed by the Manager.
