Chairman Chris Munroe gave his thoughts on the season so far and 'that' Stef Galinski goal.

After seeing his side close the gap to league leader’s South Shields to seven points, Basford United Chairman Chris Munroe is pleased with the start to the season his side has had but also does not want to get carried away.

He also heaped praise on manager Steve Chettle for the way the side have performed so far.

He said “I am absolutely delighted in our showings and points tally so far this season but no doubt like Steve Chettle, I am only focusing on small blocks of fixtures at a time.

“I spoke to Steve before the weekend and we thought four points from two difficult games would be great and obviously that transpired.

“For me so far this season has been about how solid we look and our ability to hold a lead or not lose a game. We feel that with this squad we will always score a goal but to give ourselves the best chance to hold onto points we have to keep clean sheets.

“This is the major different from last season and without question is down to Steve, his coaching staff and a superb mentality.

“We won’t get ahead of ourselves though and will focus on the next run of two important fixtures which thankfully are at home, facing Stafford Rangers in the league and Mickleover in the FA Trophy. Obviously, we are aiming for three points and to progress into the next round of the cup.”

Munroe, who witnessed his side come back from a goal down to 3-1 away to FC United of Manchester thanks to Stef Galinksi’s headed goal from inside his own half, was shocked by the publicity it received.

“It’s amazing the publicity we and Stef have been attracting from that freak goal,” the Chairman said. “The world record books are out as the goal looks within centimeters of it.

“So far there has been over 216k views (on the video of the goal) across all platforms, so this is superb publicity for the club, Stef and our great league.”
