Under 19 Manager Simon Bryant praised his players character but stressed the importance of concentrating for the entirety of the game.

Maintaining discipline is a must after his side came from behind to take all three points against a strong Sheffield United line up on Wednesday night.

United started the more fluent of the two teams, but it was the away side who went ahead through Kyeron Daws before the lead was doubled by Jacob Taylor.

Despite being in control, defensive errors enabled the home team to pull a goal back before levelling on the stroke of half time.

Within minutes of the restart, they were ahead for the first time in the match after Basford were caught attempting to play out but with twenty minutes to play, full back Richard Wynder played a delightful pass into Niall Hylton who calmly slotted home from ten yards.

With five minutes remaining, defender Valbert Hayden was the match winner for Basford, as he reacted first after a fierce drive from substitute Elliot Morley.

Speaking after the game Bryant said,

"I'm obviously delighted we have come away with all three points at what was always going to be a very tough opening fixture against a Premier League outfit.

"I thought we looked a little nervous at first but once we settled, we played some excellent football and thoroughly deserved our two nil lead.

"However, as we explained at half-time, you have to stay switched on even when you are comfortable.

"The two lapses of concentration could have proved to be costly and we can't afford to give teams like this any opportunity to get back into the game.

"We also have to ensure that we retain our discipline and don't react to situations during the game".

Next up for our Under 19's is a home fixture against Sheffield FC on Friday 13th September - 7.45pm Kick Off.
