Away day show for United’s Loyal travelling supporters (VIDEO NOW UPLOADED)

Basford came from behind to power to a brilliant 4-1 away win at Kidsgrove Athletic yesterday in Staffordshire.

Highlights of yesterdays fine win can be viewed at

Despite the early set back when a fine home move opened up Basford, after this Basford clicked well and played some great stuff to leave with the points.
Manager Martin Carruthers welcomed back Saul Denney and Ruben Wiggins Thomas to the starting line up and had another big boost as Kyle Dixon returned after injury and Jermaine Hollis also returned to Basford colours after a 4-month backpacking holiday.
Kidsgrove who until a disappointing run of late looked playoff contenders got this one off to a flyer. A fine sweeping move and nice link up fed Nick Wellecombe, who showed a class finish to lift past Saul Deeney on 9 minutes. Despite the setback a great response from Basford and Stuart Hendrie and Cory Grantham had good chances in quick succession. Anthony Griffiths-Junior also had one deflected inches wide. Basford though would not be denied and a fine sweeping move and fine ball from Stuart Hendrie played in Cory Grantham to gallop clear and strike high past the Kidsgrove keeper for 1-1 on 18 minutes. With confidence flowing United took to lead 6 minutes later. A deep cross saw a blatant push on Ashley Grayson well spotted by the official for a clear spot kick. Ruben Wiggins-Thomas easily converted for 2-1 on 24 minutes. This remained the score line at the interval and a great response by Basford.

2nd period and an early double chance from a set play for our defensive goal machine Mason Rowley say him have two close range efforts blocked by fine defending. Whether the defender over stretched in this efforts but he was immediately replaced as a precaution and Roger Lee entered the game .As the game entered the last 20 all thoughts would be would this remain a nail biter with other playoff aspiring teams also winning at this point of time in respective games on the day. Basford elevated any fears with a fine goal. Stuart Hendrie did well to create the opening and played a fine cross that Cory Grantham smashed home from the back post to seal the points for Basford. Martin Carruthers took the opportunity to get minutes for the returning Kyle Dixon and Jermaine Hollis entered the game to blow the cobwebs away. 85 minutes and a strong run saw Roger Lee go down from a challenge by home keeper Pickering that the official deemed was a penalty. Ruben Wiggins-Thomas coolly netted for 4-1 . The home side though deserve credit for keeping going and won their own penalty for a push in the box. Unfortunately for Kidsgrove Mabon was intent on making a hole in the net via power and smashed against the cross bar.
FT 4-1 Basford and another away day success. Big thanks to those supporters who made this journey and they will have went home happy seeing there team with 3 excellent points. Kidsgrove are a good outfit and with a nice little ground, are a club on the up and we wish them well in their semi final Weds and run in the Doodson Cup. For Basford the unbeaten run from the start of the year has us peaking at the right time. With players returning from injury spells then Basford will hopefully try to consolidste a playoff spot but face a battle royal on Tues travelling to Lincoln United in a game that sees Basford 8 points ahead but having played 2 games more. It would be fabulous to take a good following to Lincoln for what will be a playoff intensity game.
MOM Sat close run given so many good performances all over the pitch but it goes to Cory Grantham for an all action display.
