Great to see the lads in action on Sunday in the friendly with Winchester at the Rec.

Amazed at the thunderous performance from so many, we selected two equal teams so the lads played three games:

Game 1: A tough game with some strong defense on both sides. Bath’s ability to move the ball quickly and down the line saw a strong presence scoring 3 tries in the first half shutting Winchester out from scoring. At half time Winchester regroup and started to move the ball better, which resulted in an excellent, try. Bath stepped up a notch defended the rest of the game holding Winchester at bay with the single try. Result Bath 3 – Winchester 1.

Game 2: It was a Bath v Bath match to give the visitors a rest and allow the Bath boys to go to town. This showed just how equal the two sides were with a tie match of 2 all. The defense was especially strong and the tries scored were by stealth and cunning plays to find the allusive gap. To try to settle a win we went into overtime with a next try win attitude. Here the boys become brick walls on both sides as the ball move from team to team obtaining 7 tackles to force a turnover. In extended overtime I called the whistle as the effort by both sides was deserving of a win. More importantly Bath had one more match to play! Bath 2 – Bath 2

Game 3: The start of the game saw a more determined Winchester pushing to get the ball across the line. Bath step up to the task and kept them scoreless in the first half scoring 2 themselves. The second half Bath kept the pressure on with 2 more tires and managed to live only one try up in the process to the visitors. Try scorers were Tommy Davis & Charlie Gully with 2 a piece. Bath 4 – Winchester 1

Summary: Never before have I requested some of the guys to back off on the ferocity of the tackle for fear of hurting some of the opposing team. As sportsman we must play to our best but when some individuals are clearly stronger than other player then we should also play with some compassion. It is a sport above all else and furthermore we do not want to deter the experience for any child away regardless of team.

Great job lads…
