With a few ladies down pre match 11 players started on the pitch thank goodness Lucy and sue managed to finish coaching juniors team talk and sort twos out with enough players and team talk to arrive in Cambridge in time for pass back to make up that starting 11.
The game started fairly even with strong hockey from both teams. Both Cambridge and BDHC had time in the D with opportunities but no conversions to goal.
A short corner was awarded to Cambridge South early on which resulted ina goal from a tip in off player at the right post. A well rehearsed routine.
Cambridge continued on the attack but it was well met by BDHC with some strong defensive play and working out of the D by the shields. An unlucky Second goal to Cambridgecame from a penalty flick after a foot on the line. BDHC has quick counter attacking play following this with strong build up of play around the outside of the D, ending the second half positive and keen to break down the quick passing South.
BDHC started the second half strong with the possession. But Cambridge were cutting off play to the forwards, until a break from BDHC from Sophie, with Sarah placing herself perfectly for a tip and into the goal bringing it to 2-1.
Cambridge returned with some fast forwards marking right and sticking to players which led to some excellent steals and breaks for the goal.
Cambridge’s second goal came after a battle in the D ending with a flick over the goalie.
BDHC were determined to not let this stop them and continued battling hard with Sarah making a second goal after a break from halfway pushing the goal right post and slipping past the goalie.
BDHC continued in the offensive with some short corners late on in the game but Cambridge held out with the game finishing 3-2.A great effort against top of the league!
