A wins a win!
Not our bed performance this season
Despite Dragons being quick off the mark, the Alford defence held well with little opportunity for the Dragons to convert. It took 14 mins for the Dragons first corner which was well defended by the Alford side. Play continued but match pace remained fairly slow and though the majority of the game was fought in Alford's half, it was another 10 mins until Genny Britton had a shot on goal, which went wide. The first half came to a close with a totally blank score sheet.
The second half started well for the Dragons, who had picked up the pace and were passing better and making use of the space and width on the pitch. The first 15 minutes were littered with shorts and shots from Kirsty Martin and Genny Britton; 4 short corners and 3 shots on goal by the Dragons showed the strong desire for a goal but couldn't break through Alford's defence, with some great blocks from the keeper. 16 minutes in, finally the chance came and a ball from Jen Orrell came across the D to Genny Britton stick who pushed it past the keeper providing some much needed momentum and motivation for the Dragons. Pressure continued in Alford's half with some well worked passing up both wings from the Dragons midfield resulting in another shot on goal from Genny Britton which just missed the target. The Dragons maintained the pressure and continued to work the ball around the D, until a sideline ball made its way to Genny Britton who had a strike which Kirsty Martin got her stick to make the scoreline 0-2 Dragons. With a more comfortable buffer, but the Dragons were still hungry for a third goal and won a final short at 31 mins which sadly failed to convert. Final time, 0-2 Dragons, still on course for promotion next season
