Match report

On Saturday 2nd March, Bourne Deeping Ladies 2nds took on Louth. Having already been crowned champions, an unbeaten season was now the target.
The dragons got off to a quick start, with some great link up play leading to 3 quick shots on goal by Millie Durrands and Kirsty Martin in the 2nd minute, all saved my the Louth keeper.
The dragons continued to pass the ball around the Louth defence, with it eventually being broken down, Kirsty Martin and Millie Durrands getting goals just 2 minutes apart.
Despite the set back, Louth continued to defend strong, however more build up play leading to more shots on goal from Kirsty Martin.
Helena Darragh then decided to get a piece of the action with a brilliant top corner goal topping the Louth goalie. All the play was attacking into the Louth’s D leading to another short corner to the dragons, but defended well by Louth.
The dragons continued to pile pressure on the Louth defence with the help of Dawn McShane and Lily Fitch, with 9 shots on goal leading to 4 goals in the final 12 minutes of the first half, coming from Katie Anderson, Kirsty Martin and Rachel Adams. The score now being 7-0 while the Dragons defence watched on as it became half time.

The second half continued much like the second, with Millie Durrands grabbing a goal after just 1 minute. This was followed by another penalty corner, with Sophie Wheatley having two shots on goal, both stopped by the Louth keeper. Some great midfield play applying continued pressure on the Louth’s defence, stretching them to their limits. The pressure took its toll on Louth’s defence making an error in their D which awarded the Dragons to a penalty stroke, Rachel Gale stepped up to convert. A series of attacking short corners were awarded with shots from Jen Orrell. Louth didn’t look a threat at any point to the dragons who were totally on form, therefore Rose in goal and Rachel Gale just looked on. Some great running down the right hand side and skill by Emily Laugharne, injected in by Sophie Wheatley led to another goal for Kirsty Martin and her fourth of the game. Continued pressure meant 2 goals in the final five minutes from Jen Orrell and Katie Anderson, the game finishing 12-0 and an unbeaten season still on the cards for the ladies 2nd team. Another local game away against Spalding on the 9th.
