The sun came out for a second week to watch the BDHC Ladies 2s play their match against Wisbech Town 2s.
The Dragons were pumped to get the game started and see how their opposition would act in this head-to-head. Both teams were out and battling to take early possession and an early advantage. Fabulous work by the Dragons defence, Rachel Portlock, Jess Anderson, Isia JasiĆska and Penny Linsdell to prevent any untoward advances and the upper hand by Wisbech. The ball was shuttled up to the forwards, Josie Criddle, Vicky Edwards, Ellie Langman and fell to Daisy Moon who worked arduously and managed to get it around the Wisbech keeper, but suffered an awful injury to her knee knocking her out of commission for the rest of the game.
Taking advantage of this blow to the team lineup, Wisbech were on the offensive time and time again but could not manage to get past the fortified Eliana Russo in goal. The defenders and midfielders, Sue Oakley, Alessia Russo, Liz Nunn and Emma Cowell worked effectively to keep Wisbech at bay and to feed the ball back up the other end of the pitch.
By the end of the first half, the game remained goalless and another injury resulted in the Dragons having no substitute options left available.
Getting settled following a lineup reorganisation and an encouraging half time team talk, the Dragons were off and headed for the Wisbech defence, being awarded for their hard work with some short corners. Unfortunately, the Wisbech defensive line were relentless and would not let anything past them, despite some close calls.
Despite the heat and game pace, neither side showed their fatigue and fought up and down the pitch until the very end of the game. Full time saw a 0-0 draw against Wisbech Town 2s, with man of the match going to Liz Nunn for her strong, presence and hard work across the pitch.
