It was a bright sunny day at Sparrows Den on Saturday and the senior members of the club enjoyed a pre-game President’s lunch.
The crowd were entertained by a game which had the lead changing frequently.
Beccs opened the scoring early with a penalty from Jordan Souter. 3-0
Gravesend struck back with a converted try to make it 3-7.
Jordan Souter kicked another penalty to pull the score back to 6-7.
Gravesend kicked a penalty to extend their lead to 6-10.
Beccs coach David Sia made some inspired substitutions just before half time with Harry Copley and George Lipka scoring tries. Jordan converted both of them to give Beccs a lead of 20-10 at half time.
Gravesend started the second half better than Beccs and scored a quick converted try to pull back the score to 20-17.
Soon Gravesend scored a penalty to draw level at 20-20.
Gravesend dominated the next period of play and were rewarded with two converted tries to lead 20-34.
Beccs managed to get back into the game when Paul Broadhurst scored an unconverted try and then Jordan scored a penalty to make the score 28-34.
Beccs continued to mount the pressure and Jordan Souter scored a converted try to give Beccs the lead 35-34.
Beccs continued to attack and were denied a try when the ball was held up over the line. From the ensuing scrum Jordan scored and converted another try to make the final score 42-34.
