Vigo II v Beccs II

A much changed side took to the field in the Sun at Vigo. The Vigo side found it very hard to cope with the big Beccs pack early on. Beccs opted for the right tactics and played a forward orientated game.

After about 15 minutes Sean Torrance scored a try in the corner after some good approach work by the forwards, but Roberto missed the difficult penalty.

After further good approach work by the forwards Lloyd went over in the corner and Roberto managed to kick this conversion.
A loose kick by Beccs gave possession to Vigo and they scored a try far out which was not converted.

On about 35 minutes another loose kick conceded possession to Vigo and they again scored
a try far out which was not converted.

Beccs started the second half with the forwards driving the ball up field but the ball was lost. Vigo managed to drive the ball towards the Beccs line and then scored a try which was converted. The match then swung from one side to the other for about 15 minutes. A period of pressure from Beccs resulted in a number of penalties and eventually Roberto Baptista scored a try which he was unable to convert.
Vigo then got to grips with Beccs limited game plan and started to move the ball through the hands. The result was a try under the posts for Vigo which was easily converted.

A couple of minutes from the end Vigo again put the ball through the hands to score a good try in the corner which was not converted.

Special mention for Sean Torrance who had not played scrum half before but tried hard throughout. Matt Ions after living in Yorkshire for a few weeks paid us a visit and played a typical robust game. On times our tackling was poor and we let ourselves down with indicpline towards the end.

John Coppens made his debut on the wing.
