The weather at Bromley was similar to a week earlier at Foxbury but the quality of the Beccs U10's rugby was in no way similar to the week before at Foxbury. We asked for improvement and yes indeed improvement was delivered in abundance.
Our first game against Beckenham set a new higher standard for us in a hard fought game with Beccs the victors at three tries to two.
A late entry Bromley additional team were next, replacing Westcombe Park, and again Beccs played some intelligent hard rugby and the game ended in a three to nil win. By now the Beccs supporters were at fever pitch as expectations had been surpassed.
Our third game against Tunbridge Wells was, to use an oft used cliché, a game of two halfs. In the first half Beccs dropped their new high standards and we turned around three tries to nil down. Had the bubble burst? Not a bit of it as Beccs gritted their teeth and again found their form and in the second half there was no score. Game three a three to nil loss.
The last pool game was against a very strong Old Elthamians team, who went on to win the group. This was a thrilling fiercely competitive game that could have gone either way but OE's ran out winners two tries to one. In some ways this was my favourite game of the day. The result did not matter as against a very good team we played outstandingly well and were extremely competitive throughout.
So in the group we played four and won two so on we moved to the Vase final. Now we were way beyond my early expectations.
Another fine performance against Cranbrook and we finished winners by two to one.

The results were good but more importantly what shone through was the immense improvement in our being competitive and starting to do the things we coaches have been emphising.
An excellent tournament for all, players, parents and coaches. As I settled into an armchair with a cold beer I smiled at the massive difference just one week makes.
Well done Beccs U10's.
