On a wet, windy morning a squad of 15 brave Beccehamians and their supporters travelled across to Orpington for what turned out to be a cracking game of rugby.
From the warm up through to the final whistle (after a long game punctuated with injuries) every player was a credit to the Beccs badge.
Both sides showed an appetite to attack and there were some great phases of rugby.
It was great to see was that the drills we’d practiced over the last couple of weeks especially around defensive positioning and tackling really paid off. Our strength in defence was matched by our ability to attack from depth, run straight and hard and support each other. It was this team play that led to all three of our tries.
The whole match was evenly balanced with Beccs leading 3-2 up until the final play of the match when Westcombe managed to get a quick ball down the line and breach our defence, scoring in the corner.
As coaches we couldn’t be prouder of your performance on Sunday. Your positive attitude, team work, resilience and hard work helped you deliver what is probably one of the best performances so far this season…and you did it together!!
Scoring sequence (25 mins each way)
0-1 Westcombe 2”
1-1 Toby 4”
1-2 Westcombe 15”
2-2 Kingsley 17”
HT
3-2 Oliver B 30”
3-3 Westcombe 49”
Man of the Match – if the plaque could be cut up into 15 pieces we’d have done that as every player should be proud of their performance and deserves a huge pat on the back. However, for his strong running, powerful scrummaging, work rate and textbook presentation of the ball this week MoM went to Oliver B.
Thanks to all the guys at Westcombe for your hospitality and for making this a competitive match. It was also nice to meet your new touch judge (Paul!!). We hope the players from your team who went off injured make a speedy recovery and are back in action again soon.
Thought for the day…teamwork
We’ve spoken a lot about teamwork recently. One of the phrases from our Team Charter that springs to mind after Sunday’s performance is “Playing as a team and not trying to win on our own”. By playing together, supporting each other and trusting each other to do their job we played great rugby and earned a great result. Well done.
