Against Darts

On a cold and very muddy 2nd pitch, this was a hard fought game between two very evenly matched and committed sides.
Beccs were struggling for numbers only managing 16 players on the day, with lots of people off on half term breaks, etc. and as expected Darts were a well organised and physical side.
With many players playing out of their normal positions, no one complained and everyone got stuck in from the beginning.
After 4 minutes James Lipka scored Beccs first try from an interception, which he then converted to make it: 7 - 0
On 15 minutes, after a strong run from Herb MacPherson, who was playing as prop for the day, he scored Beccs second but unconverted try to make it 12 - 0, quite a turn of speed for a prop !!!
After 18 minutes Darts, who had a few big ball carriers, managed to get their first try, which was also unconverted to make it 12 - 10
This is how it finished at half time.
For the second half we took Arthur H off and replaced him with Rob H, who was making his Beccs debut.
On 36 minutes Toby, made a second great interception and set off on another blistering run, not to be out done in the mobile prop stakes !!
Two minutes later with Beccs defending, Arthur Betts, tackling hard as ever, managed to get his head on the wrong side in a tackle and went down with a suspected neck injury. Luckily Rose was on hand to assist and made sure that he was not moved and his head was stabilised. An ambulance was called and the game was continued on the adjoining 3rd pitch, with Arthur H coming back on and joining the forwards.
Once play resumed Beccs fought hard to keep Darts out, including a great tackle by James V to halt a likely Darts try.
The players on both sides had both started to tire at this stage, especially as we had no available subs. Beccs kept going putting in some great tackles and on 55 minutes almost scored a third try after another great run down the left wing from Herb.
In the end it finished with a narrow but deserved victory for Beccs 12 - 10

Man of the Match (Picked by Reg & Noots): Toby Marshall

LATE UPDATE: I have heard from Chris & Susie and luckily after waiting for over an hour for ambulance, Arthur was checked over at Farnborough and is OK and back home, with no permanent damage.
