Beccs U15 beat Canterbury away in Kent Cup

After a great training session on Thursday , the whole team arrived fired up for this Kent Cup quarter final at Canterbury, in very windy and wet conditions.
Canterbury are a well respected team who had a heavy pack who dominated the scrum for most of the match.
Beccs started strongly and after 5 minutes were rewarded with a sniping try from Seiji making it 0 - 5
After a series of attacking phases, Beccs scored their 2nd try after 20 minutes, with Eoin running down the right wing to score. Ben added the conversion, which was some achievement given the less than ideal kicking conditions 0 - 12

In the second half, Canterbury really upped the pressure and despite numerous assaults on the Beccs line, couldn't break the Beccs defence. The defence from Beccs was truly superb and unrelenting, with Liam and Evan amongst others making some monster tackles and with the ball held up 3 separate times. During this very physical phase both Eoin and Toby were injured and replaced but still Canterbury could not cross our line.
On 50 minutes Beccs turned defence into attack with the ball getting along the line to Max who stepped the Canterbury defence and appeared to be in for another Beccs try but the play was called back for a rather harshly judged forward pass, from where I was standing it looked good.
Canterbury threw every thing they had into the last 10 minutes of the game and eventually managed a try after 55 minutes but missed the conversion with a hastily taken drop kick at goal. 5 - 12
With 5 minutes left to go and with some very tired and bruised bodies, Beccs managed to keep Canterbury out to win the game and now proceed to the Semi Final next Sunday 5th March.
