This is the sort of game that the phrase "Local Derby" was invented for.

Bromleys B team was the side Beccs beat in last years Kent Bowl final, also many boys on both teams go to school together, and one used to play
for us. We were warned that Bromley may very well play some of their A team players and given that Bromleys A team are current Kent Champions, this was going to add some spice to an already tasty looking fixture.

When Bromleys team lined up there were some very familiar faces in the back line from Kent and district games. Their coach had also confided to playing "several" A teamers, but, and this was the crucial thing, our boys were not intimidated, in fact, this seemed to make them even more up for it !!

The game kicked off and, like the final at the end of last season we scored first from a move that swept one way, then the other across the field with Charlie scoring in the corner. Ryan missed a tricky conversion but we were 5 nil up.
Again, just like the final, Bromley came back at us really strongly. Beccs defended well, but it was inevitable that the Bromley pressure would tell and they bundled over for a try. Their kicker made a difficult
conversion look easy and they were 7 - 5 up.

Bromley continued to pile on the pressure but Beccs defended superbly and kept catching Bromley on the break. One such run from Raymon got Beccs their second try when he was tackled just short, and Ryan dived over from the resulting ruck. Again a tricky conversion was missed, but Beccs went into half time 10 - 7 up.

Beccs kicked off the second half with some substitutions, as did Bromley. They were over heard saying "lets get the proper team on and then we'll sort this out". And for the first few minutes of the half it looked like they were going to be right, as Bromley crossed out wide for their second try. Again this was converted leaving the score at 14 - 10.
At this point in previous seasons this Beccs team would have folded, but this time that was never going to happen.
Beccs took the game to Bromley and 90% of the rest of the game was played in Bromleys half. Wave after wave of attacks were soaked up by Bromley who defended fantastically. There was a period of great attacking
from Beccs and awesome defence from Bromley. Beccs got over the line, only for the Referee to judge that Raymon had been held up.
Several try scoring opportunities were broken up by Bromley as the game slowly ticked away. The ref finally blew the whistle with the score unchanged.

This was a proper game of rugby played by two sides that were never going to give the opposition an inch.
Congratulations to both teams, Bromley for hanging on at the end under enormous pressure, and Beccs for never giving up and fighting till the end. Thanks to all the Beccs boys for their effort, well done lads
