Beccs proudly hosted the annual Family Game on Saturday 4 April 2026, a highlight of the club calendar that once again delivered in style.
A remarkable squad of 31 players, representing 11 families, took to the field in a full-contact Men’s Over 18s fixture. The line-up featured an impressive mix of rugbying bloodlines, including six Father & Son pairings, alongside Uncles, Brothers and Cousins — proving that talent (and competitive spirit!) truly runs in the family.
What followed was a day packed with commitment, camaraderie and no shortage of memorable moments. The pitch showcased everything from perfectly timed Father-to-Son passes to the occasional “I taught you better than that!” tackle — with family bragging rights very much on the line. Tries were scored, pride was defended, and a few reputations may have been gently challenged along the way.
Most importantly, it was a day that created lasting memories. Every player stepped up, contributing to a fantastic spectacle that reflected the very best of the club.
The photos (album links below), expertly captured by Paul Harrington, as always thank you Paul — tell the full story, from moments of pure sporting pride to the inevitable “oops” that comes with mixing family and full-contact rugby.
Off the field, the day continued in fine fashion with a brilliant clubhouse social, making full use of the new roof terrace. It was particularly great to see guests fully embracing the occasion and delivering performances (on and off the pitch) that rivalled the regulars.
Special thanks go to Dave Sweeting for his enthusiasm and coordinating the fixture & post match merriment, London Society's Jeff Farmer and Les Todd for kindly officiating and to Paul Thirkettle and all the bar team for ensuring everything ran seamlessly throughout the day and into the evening.
A truly fantastic event from start to finish — and a reminder of what makes this club so special.
