Beccles travelled away to Lowestoft and Yarmouth (L&Y) in the first local derby of the season.
Beccles had some last minute changes before making the short trip to Lowestoft.
In the first 15 minutes of the match, Beccles pinned L&Y down in there 22. Unfortunately, Beccles couldn’t open the score board.
The rest of the first half was a very well contested game. Strong hits from JOLLY and SMITH stopped L&Y from making much ground. CATLING was superb at the breakdown, giving Beccles the opportunity to move up the pitch.
Unfortunately, before half time, L&Y grabbed two unconverted tries, which gave them a 10-0 lead at half time.
When the second half started, Beccles came out very strong and put L&Y on the back foot.
An intercept from WALKER sent him clear through to score directly under the posts, bringing the score to 10-7.
Beccles then turned up the heat and started to play some “champagne” Rugby in words of backs coach BURLING, for all the fans to enjoy on the side of the pitch. In particular, BAKER stepped his opposite winger and made lovely ground. ADAMS also made valuable metres to leave L&Y scrambling.
13 minutes from the end, BALDRY made a break through the L&Y defence before making a lovely offload. A penalty was given against L&Y, which GEDNEY showed great nerves to slot from 35m out to put the score 10-10.
Beccles kept up the intensity and just fell short of scoring another try after getting close in the corner.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be Beccles day after L&Y scored a debatable late unconverted try.
The Bulls next face Norwich 2 XV at home on Saturday the 22nd of October 2022, as they look to kick on and keep their unbeaten home record.
