Beccles welcomed Great Yarmouth Broadland this week in what promised to be an entertaining game.

And it was just that.

Great Yarmouth Broadland started the game very strongly and were hard and aggressive. This gave them an early 7-0 lead.

However, after regaining their composure, Beccles responded by ARMSTRONG going over for the first of his 4 tries.

Beccles quickly acted on momentum again, with LOADER being put away on the wing to give Beccles the lead.

Beccles’ tails were now up and they started to click. SHUCKSMITH powered through the Great Yarmouth Broadland defence and went over to extend Beccles’ lead.

This was shortly followed by ARMSTRONG’S second try of the game, as he was hit off a backs move, cutting through the defence and finding his way under the posts. This gave Beccles their bonus point.

Beccles at this point were playing the champagne Rugby and were clicking magnificently.

Man of the match JOHNSTONE was constantly targeted at the restarts. Being put under pressure with high kicks and players rushing to compete for the ball. Reliably, he collected the ball and gave Beccles opportunity after opportunity to get the ball out wide.

FOBBESTER added another try to his tally for the season as he ran through the Great Yarmouth Broadland defence.

MURTIMER got his first try for the Beccles 1 XV as he sliced his way through the defence to go underneath the posts to score.

Half time was eluding, but Beccles weren’t done yet with their rampant Rugby. ARMSTRONG went over for his hatrick and became this seasons current top try scorer.

Two conversions from GEDNEY and two from FLYNN, gave Beccles a 43-7 lead. A superb first half display.

Head Coach SWANBOROUGH stated at half time that Beccles needed to keep up that high intensity.

As the second half restarted, Beccles were guilty of taking their foot off the peddle and not being as ruthless as the first half. Nonetheless, the points kept on coming.

Great Yarmouth Broadland came out in the second half and put in a solid display, grabbing three tries and giving Beccles their hardest opposition in the scrum this season.

However, Beccles were still finding the gaps out wide. BURLING sniped off a ruck on the wing, a simple pop to back rower CATLING who was on his shoulder allowed him to run from 30m out to get his first try of the season. A wingers instinct finish.

ARMSTRONG got his fourth try of the match as he broke through tackles in the midfield and had the legs to go under the posts.

The second half was fiercely contested. With both teams hitting hard and contesting the breakdown. MORTON and BALDRY made pivotal hits to stop Great Yarmouth Broadland from 10m out.

A special day for Luke KNIGHTS, who came on to get his Beccles 1 XV debut. An excellent display around the park and in the line outs. He also joined his brother James KNIGHTS in the squad.

Beccles finished the game off with LOADER getting the better of his opposite man on the wing, to score his second try of the game.

Two conversions from FLYNN in the second half gave Beccles a 62-22 victory over Great Yarmouth Broadland.

An excellent and ruthless display from The Bulls. Next week we travel to Holt 2 XV in what promises to be a very well contested game.
