Beccles just missed out on that elusive victory after they were edged out in a tight game against Wisbech. A last minute penalty to win the game went agonisingly wide as they lost by 10 – 12.

Beccles were still missing a few key players but were able to field a stronger side than they had in previous weeks.
The game was very tight to begin with, played in the middle of the park with neither side able to win much territory. Beccles were on top at the scrum, driving the Wisbech scrum back and winning a lot of scrums against the head.
There were relatively few chances for either team until Wisbech upped their game midway through the first half. Beccles defence had been good but a few missed tackles let Wisbech in. They scored two tries and a conversion to lead 12 – 0 at half time.
It was Beccles turn to up their game in the second half and they began to make inroads in to the Wisbech half. Man of the Match Gedney was controlling the game well and put Wisbech on the back foot with some good tactical kicking.
Beccles forced a penalty which Gedney slotted to get them on the scoreboard. Beccles then followed this up with a try. Some good driving by the forwards led to Johnstone being stopped just short of the line. The ball was recycled quickly and Holtzer powered his way over to score. Gedney added a difficult conversion from the touchline to bring Beccles within two.
As the game drew to an end Beccles went all out for the victory. They put pressure on a Wisbech scrum causing an infringement and a penalty chance to win the game. Gedney stepped up but the kick went just wide. The final whistle went leaving the Beccles team gutted, having so close to picking up their first victory since November.
The second xv travelled to Fakenham and went down by 68 – 24. They travelled short again with eleven players and did well to pick up a bonus point for scoring four tries.
This week both teams have a week off. The following the first xv host Colchester III’s and the second xv travel to Holt.
