After a 31 – 31 draw in the previous game against the same opposition Beccles were looking to get back to winning ways. Holtzer, Pitts and Buck returned to strengthen the front five.
It was Cottenham who opened the scoring with an early penalty but after that it was all Beccles. Adams got the first try after supporting a break well and sprinting clear to score. Hannam added another soon after with a trademark interception try. Suchy and Kauri added further tries to secure the bonus point within thirty minutes.
Cottenham did score one of their own before Harrison added another before half time. Beccles went in to the break well in control leading by 31 – 10.
Kauri scored his second early in the second half before Cottenham had a good spell when Beccles continually failed to clear their lines. They added a second try.
As the game went in to the final twenty mintues a depleted Cottenham side began to tire allowing the Beccles backs to run riot. Kauri completed his hat-trick before Suchy added his second of the game.
Rooney powered his way over to get in on the act before Barrett found space out wide to break away and score. The final try was a second for Harrison to complete the scoring at 71 – 15.
Man of the match was Holmes.
This was another good win for Beccles as they march towards the league title. With three games left they are six points clear at the top of the table. They entertain Newmarket on Saturday and will be looking to take another step towards promotion.
After a few weeks of not being able to field a team the second team returned with a bang. Fielding a full team with some new players added to the ranks the team quickly gelled together well to beat Lakenham by 20 -10. There were tries from Puxley, Casbolt, Knights and Gardiner. Man of the match was Knights.
