Beccles were missing Captain Baldry, with Holtzer replacing him in the 2nd row. Gedney took over the captain responsibilities for the day. Loader moved in to the scrum half role after playing all of this season on the wing.
The game was very tight to start off with. Diss had a lot of the ball but were not making any in roads into the Beccles defence. Beccles were putting the opposition under pressure when they had the ball. Some good work by Smit saw him force the ball loose and he collected to run in under the posts for the opening try. Gedney added the conversion.
Diss scored next to level the scores up with a well worked try. They then went in to the lead with a penalty. Beccles finished the half on top though. They pushed Diss back to their own line and quick hands by Gedney found Knights on the wing who crashed over for the try. Gedney just missed the conversion from the touchline. The half time score was 10-12.
The game continued to be tight in the second half. Beccles were on top in the scum but couldn't turn this pressure in to points. Diss edged ahead with a penalty and their experienced players then ran the game well to not let Beccles back in. They cleared their lines well pinning Beccles in their own half not giving them the chance to score points.
Diss added one further penalty to give a final score of 16- 12. This week Beccles travel to take on Southwold II's. The second team have a trip to Thetford.
