After last week’s disappointing loss to Clacton, Beccles Bulls bounced back in style with an emphatic victory over a gutsy Billericay outfit.

After a cagey first ten minutes in which neither side dominated, Beccles soon found their rhythm thanks to a strong set-piece. The home side’s pack managed to win almost every scrum against the head as well as being untroubled in the line out. With this, Evans scythed through a gap in the defence and a after a series of offloads, the ball found Harmer who dived over in the corner for the first try of the game.

Soon after, a well worked move in the back line allowed Wade to glide through a hole in the defence for Beccles’ second try. Five minutes later, another training ground move from the backs gave Wade his second try off the game.

In the second half Beccles were eager to put on more entertainment for the home crowd and seal that crucial four try bonus point. Lake got his name on the scoresheet when he dived over from the back of a well worked line-out maul, before Harmer proved that he is back to his best form with a further two tries for his first hat-trick.

At this stage in the game Beccles were rampant, scoring at will from the restarts, with B&B skip hire man of the match Keith Johnstone in particular kickstarting the Beccles attack. Beccles continued to carve out some stunning tries, with Yeowell, Evans and Tieuti often at the heart of it. Armstrong demonstrated his finishing prowess, adding three further tries for a second half hat-trick of his own. Wade was immaculate with the boot throughout, converting all the tries with pin-point accuracy.

This was confidence boost that the Bulls desperately needed with some tough fixtures coming up over the winter period. Meanwhile, the Beccles second team remain undefeated thanks to a memorable 55-0 win at Lowestoft and Yarmouth. The Bulls next week travel to Upminster whilst the second team host Wymondham at Beef Meadow 3pm KO.
