Once the outdoor season during Spring and Summer is over, after a short break, pre- and post-Christmas indoor junior training begins for softballers, transition and hardball players.
We complement training with indoor league match playing opportunities for our cricketers.
Beckenham CC entered the Bromley Borough Junior Indoor Leagues at U12, U14 and U16, played weekly at Bromley High School, organised and run by GRIT Sport Coaching.
Teams of seven, play 12 over innings, in matches of 70 minutes, honing their skills and competitive edge whilst having fun and competing against many of the club's outdoor rivals from the North Kent Junior League.
The U14s has a quiet campaign (after winning the title last season) with eight matches (four wins, four losses) including a couple of very close defeats for a mid-table finish. More than 20 players in years 8, 9 and 10 featured over the U14 indoor season and we look forward to seeing them performing outdoor this season.
Our U12s played 10 matches, losing one and ending the campaign in second place by 1 point on the last day of the indoor league.
It was an excellent campaign with many stand out moments in the field with catches and run outs a plenty. One of our wicketkeepers ending up 9th in the top 10 with 5 wickets in the campaign. On the batting front, Beckenham players were first and third in the top 10 run scorers; and eighth in top 10 bowling stats with best figures of 12 for 3.
Nineteen players featured in the campaign and the teamwork and camaraderie was great to witness.
The U16s eight match campaign was also decided on the last week of the league with a top of the table clash between Beckenham and Chislehurst & West Kent. Beckenham emerged victorious after posting 85 for 4 off 12 overs, then bowling out C&WK for 61 in 11.5 overs.
Sixteen players featured in the campaign from years 8, 9, 10 and 11, several playing up when needed due to selection challenges.
Four of the team's batters featured in the top 10 performance stats in 1st, 3rd, 9th and 10th place, scoring 432 runs between them. Two of the U16s bowlers were in 1st and 6th place in the top 10 with the bowler in first posting best figures of 9 for 4 and figures in eight matches of 20.1 overs, 1 maiden, 92 runs and 14 wickets.
In the fielding top 10 stats, three of the team, including the keeper, were 2nd, 3rd and 8th accounting for 20 wickets. One player in the U16s featured in all three top 10 categories capping off a great indoor campaign for the whole team.
As always, Beckenham volunteers stepped up to manage teams every week, encouraged and cheered on the teams who played in the best spirit and fought to the end.
Here's to a sunny, happy and successful outdoor season starting on Sunday 13 April with our first training sessions in the fresh air!
