"With an attack that could look more dangerous in Patricks than on a cricket pitch, we knew tight lines and building pressure would be the way forward."

The first league game had finally arrived after some strong showings in pre-season. As with any regime change, promises of freedom and hope were there, but could the team deliver? As many have found however, with change comes adversity and with both an umpire and opening bowler down before play had begun, it began to feel like "one of those days"

However, thanks goes to the Gravesend captain who decided to field, full knowing the impending doom that was predicted around 3pm As we found last week, the bar of soap does not lend itself to cricket.
Harris & Farrow made their way to the crease therefore, with the former quickly impersonating a cat on a hot tin roof, before barbecuing himself beautifully. One of those days...
Joined by Pillar the scoring soon picked up with both batsman going nicely. The bowler however knew Ross enjoys chipping to cover and he duly hit the half volley to the delighted fielder. More runs soon followed with Grice at the crease, batting in his usual classy way many of us can only dream of. Although going nicely, Grice's groins were impersonating Stormy Daniels after a night with The "Donald" and the loose shot soon followed. The new skipper ran his way to 50, supported by Evans who steered the side to a competitive 239.

With an attack that could look more dangerous in Patricks than on a cricket pitch, we knew tight lines and building pressure would be the way forward. It quickly reaped rewards for the opening pair of Thumper and Mr. Chair, both picking up wickets. A Collingwood esq catch by Harris a particular highlight, with a Panesar like drop from Evans the opposite. Further impressive spells from Lennox & Northwood saw the end of Gravesend and 18 points for the Bee's on the opening day. Improvements to be made but a great start ahead of a local derby this weekend.
