With a much-changed side on another Sunny morning at Foxgrove Road, Beckenham knew 18 points would secure the league title. Spirits were naturally high & even with a much changed side, the skipper elected to bat on what looked a very "typical Foxgrove Deck".
Sure enough, the home side were 25-3, with Harris, Barnett & Shanks back in the hut, following average shots to some average bowling. This lead to a buoyant Sidcup, who were grinning at the sight of the runaway leaders in trouble. However, all this served to achieve was bring Oli Barnes to the crease earlier than planned. After an early life, Barnes played in his usual aggressive manor, with 16 fours and 2 sixes in his excellent 141 off 104 balls. Assisted by some solid partnerships with Engel, Sabharwal & Sanders, he led Beckenham to a very competitive total, with Muds finally founding the middle of his bat with some late biffing. BCC posting 254.
Following a solid tea from Karren (As Per) and listening to Shanks ramble on about Bumble & other stories of failing miserably to find a soul mate, Purwar lead the bowling cartel with two early breakthroughs. This featured a superb Gully catch from Harris, which proved to be the highlight of his day. Certainly the team are hopeful of AP will find the gym during pre-season, which will led to more performances of this nature in 2020, bu it was great to see AP back to his Foxgrove home. As usual, Sanders provided superb assistance at the other end with two of his own, including the plumbest of plumb LBW's. Dayal and Johnson then gave their best spin twins impersonations, with 3 wickets between them effectively ending the contest. Thomas, Barnett & Sanders polished off the tail, with the last wicket caught byt the skipper at slip to deliver the league title to the Foxgrove cabinet.
The side have performed brilliantly all season & have thoroughly deserved the rewards. We hope this starts off the celebrations for next Saturday and wish all teams the very best of luck next weekend.
Our attentions will turn to recording a 301 points tally for the season, whilst aiming to fly back from Whitstable in record time!
