Cwm Welfare AFC face the biggest game in their proud history tomorrow when they travel to Port Talbot to face Trefelin for a place in the Welsh league

There will be a big crowd at the fantastic Grenquip Stadium (pictured) for the game which kicks off at 2pm.

Cwm Welfare winners of the South Wales Senior league take on Trefelin BGC who were crowned South Wales Amateur league champions for a place in the Welsh league 3rd Division.

Both teams have had a memorable season but know that it will be in vain tomorrow if they cannot get the result at the ground home to Welsh Premier league outfit Port Talbot.

Cwm have been focussing on this big game for weeks and certainly will be up for the huge challenge from the Aberdare based outfit. The Welfare have enjoyed a fantastic 2014 and almost pulled off a remarkable victory against Penydarren last week in the South Wales Senior Cup final despite playing a weakened outfit.

So all eyes are on the Grenquip stadium which has also hosted Uefa Cup football. The excellent surface will certainly help Cwm, who will play in the green and gold of Beddau tomorrow.

So what do we know of Trefelin.

Brief History

Trefelin boys and girls club were formed in 1984 and has continually grown with a strong junior and senior level section.

The club has made very good progress to date with the emphasis based firmly on "grass roots" football to encourage and help promote children of all age groups, abilities, gender, or ethnic group to participate in sport, with further development and coaching it will enhance their confidence and skills and hopefully see them progress to a higher level.

the club has over the years had many members capped at boys & girls club of Wales levels, all of whom we are very proud. Trefelin began playing their matches at the local park, the committee at the time put in a lot of effort and hard work to raise funds which resulted in the building of Ynys park playing field and pavilion complex. Work has continually progressed with a drainage system being installed, and fencing erected around the ground. Trefelin have won numerous honours at senior level, the first was being crowned 2nd division champions in the 1990/91 season. The success continued and it saw Trefelin become Port Talbot premier league champions, where they were to be accepted into the South Wales amateur league in the 1994/95 season. In 1995/96 they gained promotion into the first division as champions, a feat which they repeated again in 2006/07.

Trefelin won the FAW trophy in 1999/2000 when they beat Bryntirion Athletic 6-2, and they lifted the John Owen cup 2011/2012 when they were 2-1 winners over AFC Bargoed.

Trefelin won the South Wales Amateur league in 2013/14.

Cwm arguably played in the toughest of the two leagues this season and still only managed to lose just four times.

There is a supporters bus leaving the rugby club at 12.45pm prompt and there will be the small charge of £4.

Everybody at the Club and the community wish Cwm all the best tomorrow and hope at 5pm tomorrow evening that they will be a Welsh league team. You have done the village proud, now lets get over that final hurdle. Good luck!!
