All the action from around the club and community

Normal service resumes for our teams this weekend after the Autumn International series.

The 1st XV will be looking for a win that could take them up to third place in the National Championship as they welcome Tata Steel to Mount Pleasant Park (2.30pm).

The Margam based club currently hold that third spot with thirty seven points from eleven games which is three more points than the Green and Golds. They have also recorded one win more than Beddau. They suffered a shock 46-5 loss at second placed Narberth last weekend which will certainly mean that Beddau will face a backlash on Saturday.

Tata have enjoyed excellent victories over Glamorgan Wanderers (26-22), Cardiff Met (20-10), Newcastle Emlyn (52-29), Skewen (17-12), Dunvant (31-25), Glynneath (57-0), Newbridge (42-7) and Beddau (22-6). Their losses have come against Narberth in that fixture last week, Pontypool (19-30) and Bedlinog (22-10).

Beddau were hugely disappointed that they didn’t get anything from the opening day fixture down West Wales after a late onslaught saw Tata take the spoils. They will be hoping to put that right this weekend as they look to record their eighth win in ten games.

In this fixture last season the Green and Golds got a rare win over Tata by 22-6 thanks to tries from Tom Sheppard, Bradley Coombes and Cody Baker with Sam Withers slotting seven points through the boot.

Match referee is Mr Justin Evans.

The 2nd XV will look to continue their good start to the season when they make the trip up to the Cynon Valley to take on a good Aberdare outfit in another Rhondda & East Glamorgan DRU League fixture.

The young Green and Golds currently lie in third spot in the table and just three points off new leaders Dowlais who they have a game in hand over. They will be tested for sure on Saturday though against a young and fast improving Aberdare outfit who have recorded one win from their first three games this season which was a 27-10 success over Senghenydd a fortnight ago.

Kick-off is 2.30pm and match referee is Mr Nathan Parker.

The Youth XV do not have a scheduled fixture but are looking to re-arrange a league game or set up a pool fixture. Coaches Daley, James and Kumar will be keen to keep their side playing after a good win at Gilfach Goch last week.

Mini & Junior Rugby

Our mini and junior “Bulldogs” are again in action on Sunday. Please make every effort to get out and support our future stars on the local grounds. It is fantastic to see so many youngsters playing and more importantly enjoying the games which is testament to the many volunteers who run each team.

On Friday night our table topping darts team are again in action with a home fixture against the Mounters who play out of the Mountain Hare Inn in Brynna.

Beddau remain top and unbeaten in their first nine games of the season whilst Friday night’s visitors have two wins from nine and sit in tenth spot in the table.

The match will start at 8.15pm and support from all members will be very welcome.

Cwm Welfare finally got a win that their performance deserved last week as a brace from Rhys Williams plus an individual effort from Tom Holder ensured an excellent 3-1 win at Chepstow Town. They will hope for more of the same this week as they entertain Trethomas Bluebirds at Mount Pleasant.

Cwm jumped up to fourteenth with last week’s victory and another win this weekend will see them pull just behind a large group of teams in mid table. The visitors on Saturday currently sit in eighth spot having won five and drawn two of their opening thirteen games and have seventeen points which is nine more than Cwm.

There is more top quality live sporting action to be seen on the many big screens and large TV’s around the Clubhouse this weekend.

There is the England v Australia rugby International, Guinness Pro 12 rugby and Premiership football all to be watched.

There is also the usual Sunday afternoon entertainment in the bar from 5.30pm when a top local vocalist keeps everyone dancing along.

Don’t forget to pick up your lucky lotto tickets at the bar over the weekend for Monday night’s big draw. Pick four lucky numbers and you could be earning yourself a big jackpot to help with the Christmas presents. Remember the saying “you have got to be in it to win it!!”. This is also a fantastic way to support your Club with their projects that continue to help the community.

Have a great weekend
