All the weekend action from around the club and community

After the festive break our teams return to action this weekend looking forward to what could be another successful season.

The 1st XV will face a long away trip to Newcastle Emlyn for another National Championship fixture.

The teams met back at Mount Pleasant Park back at the end of September when the Green and Golds put on what was their best performance of the season to defeat the West Walians 69-3. Joe Casella, Carl Lewis, James Cashin, Cody Baker, Callum Wheeler, Kristian Parker, Adam Ashford, Jordon Goodwin and Hywel Chatham all crossed the whitewash that afternoon. The latter added no fewer than eleven kicks from twelve to finish with a personal haul of twenty nine points for the game.

This was Beddau’s first success of the campaign and started a good run of results which moved them up into fourth place a position that they still currently hold.

Our hosts on Saturday have won five and drawn one of their opening fourteen league games this season and hold the seventh place spot at the moment. Their victories have come against Cardiff Met (34-32), Dunvant (22-16), Newbridge (20-0), Glamorgan Wanderers (35-30) and an excellent 24-20 at Bedlinog at the end of November. They also pushed runaway league leaders Pontypool close at their Dol Wiber ground before eventually losing out by 23-18. Their draw was a 3-3 result at home to Skewen at the end of November.

The Pontypool result shows that the red and whites are tough nut to crack on their own patch and Beddau saw that for certain last season when they were defeated there by 23-19 in one of the final games of the season. Sam Withers scored a brace of tries for the Green and Golds that afternoon with Cobi Flowers also crossing but it was not to be.

Kick-off is 2.30pm and match referee is Mr Peter Evans.

The 2nd XV will be looking to build upon their hard fought Boxing Day derby win over Llantrisant when they make the trip over to Senghenydd in another Rhondda & East Glamorgan DRU fixture.

The young Green and Golds can go top of the table if Penallta can overcome Bargoed and that they get the result first up at a good Sneggy outfit.

The teams have met once already in a friendly fixture at Mount Pleasant when a strong Beddau team defeated their guests 45-7. It will certainly not be the same score line this weekend with the Saints an altogether different proposition on their own patch.

Kick-off is also 2.30pm and match referee is Mr Tyler Smith.

The Youth XV have a free league weekend and will return to action next Saturday with a Blues BA fixture at Cardiff Met.

Our mini and junior “Bulldogs” also return to action this Sunday after a well-deserved Christmas and New Year break. Please get out and support our future stars around the fields of Beddau this weekend. We wish each age group every success for the New Year. Keep doing us proud!!!.

We are awaiting confirmation but our Darts team could re-arrange their top of the table home clash with Ogmore A for this Friday. Beddau currently lead Ogmore by a point in the table thanks to a better points difference in games this season but Ogmore are the only team left with a 100% record this season. The result of this game will go a long way to deciding the destiny of the Pontyclun & District Winter league title with Ogmore desperate to get revenge for losing the summer league title on the final day of the season to Beddau.

This game was originally set for December 16th but league officials gave teams the opportunity to re-arrange these fixtures due to the Christmas festivities.

There is plenty of sporting action live in HD around the Clubhouse on the many large screens and big TV’s this weekend. There is more Guinness and Aviva rugby action and plenty of FA Cup football to be seen.

Don’t forget there is the usual Sunday afternoon / evening entertainment in the bar when a top local vocalist plays live. All the fun starts from 5.30pm and is free for members and bona fide guests.

Don’t forget to pick up your lucky Club lottery tickets from behind the bar this weekend for Monday night’s draw. If Christmas hit you in the pocket then winning this jackpot will certainly help!! Pick four numbers for £1 and who knows what could happen. Got to be in it, to win it!!!

Have a great weekend.
