All the weekend action from around the club and community

With a break in the Six Nations Championship there is a full schedule of action at the Clubhouse over the weekend.

The 1st XV will resume National Championship league fixtures with a home fixture against Skewen on Saturday.

The West Walian outfit have had a good season winning seven and drawing one of their seventeen games which sees them currently occupy eighth place in the table. A win at Mount Pleasant Park though could see them rise up to fifth place.

Their seven wins have come against Tata Steel (19-12), Dunvant (24-11 & 24-23), Glynneath (19-10 & 13-3), Newbridge (9-8) and Glamorgan Wanderers (20-19).

Their one draw was a 3-3 score line with Newcastle Emlyn.

Beddau returned from Tennant Park back in October with a hard fought bonus point 29-14 win. Cody Baker grabbed a brace of tries with Lewis Egal and Dai Francis also crossing the line. Hywel Chatham kicked two conversions before he was forced to leave the field with an injury which resulted in a red card for the hosts. Callum Wheeler in his absence slotted a vital penalty and conversion.

The Green and Golds will be looking to build upon what was an excellent display against Ebbw Vale a fortnight ago and record their thirteenth win of the campaign. With just six points separating Beddau and second place Tata Steel there is certainly a chance of an end of season top two finish in sight.

Match referee is Mr Mike English (Portskewett, Monmouthsire) and kick-off is 2.30pm.

The 2nd XV return to Rhondda & East Glamorgan DRU Division A rugby and face a tough away day at Penallta.

The Pitmen are in good form and have jumped up the table to second spot after some good recent results. They have lost just twice this year and one of them was against Beddau at Mount Pleasant Park back in October. A young Beddau side gave an excellent display that day to record the spoils with a tight 13-7 success.
They have recorded four wins this league campaign against Mountain Ash (12-10), Dowlais (45-15 & 17-0) and Senghenydd (39-5).

A win for Riaz Majhoti and Tom Preeces’ side on Saturday would see them jump up to third and with games in hand over the top two.

Match referee is Mr Gareth James and kick-off is also 2.30pm.

The Youth XV are currently without a scheduled fixture for this weekend.

JUNIOR RUGBY

There is lots of home action this weekend for our mini and junior “Bulldogs (weather permitting). Pop along to the fields of Mount Pleasant and Yorkdale to support our future stars and give them the encouragement that they deserve.

DARTS

On Friday night our darts team are again in Pontyclun & District Darts Winter league action. They welcome Whitehills B to the Clubhouse hoping to get a victory to close the gap on leaders Ogmore A. Lenny’s Lions are just three points off the top with a game in hand.

The teams met last back in October and thanks to a double 180 from Cavan Phillips and another maximum from John Coburn Beddau recorded a 5-2 (12-6 legs) win.

More of the same will be welcome this weekend against a very good Whitehills side who sit in fourth place in the table after thirteen victories and just five defeats this season.

The action starts at 8.15pm and any support will be welcome.

FOOTBALL

Cwm Welfare host Ynysygerwyn a hugely important Welsh National league division three tie this Saturday (2.30pm).

Cwm slipped to fifteenth spot in the table last weekend but know a win this Saturday could see them jump out of the relegation spots. Their hosts are just seven points ahead of them in the table having played four more games this season. They have picked up seven wins and three draws in them twenty four games.

The teams have met once this season down in Neath Port Talbot with the home team taking the points with a 2-1 victory.
