Our tough away trip to SCR was always going to be a big date in the diary, Gaffa Paul Johnson has now done a big double over our promotion chasing rivals after this hard earned 1-0 win.
Managers will always be judged on team selections and players they bring in, there was a few eyebrows raised when both new signing Mustafa Tiryaki and Jason were named as the starting forward line. Tiryaki had the ball in the net around 30 mins in after an excellent Tim Pitt cross, but the lino said he had strayed offside. It was then made hard for sports when Jake Hicks was dismissed for an off the ball incident just before half time. Johnson and Hibburt rallied there troops and MOM Jason linked up with new signing Mustafa to put sports 1-0 up and send our army of travelling fans into raptures. Sports then had to produce a back to the wall performance where Rourke Pickford and his back line held firm keeping SCR to half chances as the sports stopper and man mountain Luke Ruddick kept them at bay. The finals whistle was met with a loud cheer from the sports faithful.
Promotion places wont be decided here but it does give us an advantage, despite what many would say with us having the tougher run in. But the lads have put us in with a shout, 5 more cup finals starting Saturday at home to Banstead
