Bedfont Sports recovered from a two goal deficit to seal a spot in the next round of the FA Cup.

Hanworth Villa edged the opening exchanges during a scrappy start to the game in the August sunshine. Villa were getting a lot of joy down the left and it was a cross from here that led to a corner which resulted in the opening goal. Sports failed to clear and it dropped to the centre back to swing a left footed shot in to the far corner.

Didi was working hard on the right but the final ball was lacking and Villa soon broke away straight through the middle of Sports’ defence to double their lead; number 9 calmly slotting past the keeper as he approached. It nearly got worse on 31 minutes when the ref turned away a big penalty shout.

Johno made 2 substitutions after 34 minutes to try and change the flow. Whilst it wasn’t significant, it did bring about Sports’ first shot on target.

Half time came about and it was an opportunity for a regroup. Johno must have said something right as a different Sports emerged for the second half. On 50 minutes Williams was the first to react following a save from Villa’s keeper to fire in to the net. From here it was game on. The second came about two minutes later. Didi played a neat 1-2 on the edge of the box before poking it smartly inside the near post.

Hanworth were on the ropes but regained some composure and came very close to regaining the lead on 58 minutes following a scramble in the box.

The heat was taking its toll and a flat 10 minutes followed. This didn't stop Didi continuing his good work on the left and it was from another enterprising run that Sports took the lead for the first time. His cross was spilt by the keeper and Williams was on hand to grab his second of the game.

Some late pressure from Villa was relieved as Jordan skilfully worked an opportunity for himself, only to see the keeper make a smart save at his near post.

Sports held on for the win with an excellent second half performance enough to separate the sides. It’s now in to the hat for the next round and on to Chertsey on Monday.
