Swifts dominate local opposition to keep clean sheet.

A well drilled and a systematic Swifts team takes full points against a very resilient Kempston....

Local derbies always have the potential to upset the form books but on this occasion it was not meant to be as Swifts put in a very commanding performance to see themselves move to joint fourth in the league. Within the first 20 minutes Swifts were showing their potential as they were four tries up and building a head of steam, constantly applying pressure to the Kempston defence. Line out and training ground set moves were working well with Kempston unable to deal with the constant pressure that they were put on the from the start.

Swifts had a very healthy lead by half-time and, despite easing off slightly in the second half, continued to add points on the board both through strong forward play and the backs doing their thing also. A total of nine unanswered tries for Swifts with 7 conversions sealed the match.

Despite the score line, Kempston’s resilience was to be commended as they continued tackling and defending right until the very end, managing to prevent at least five tries as they held their nerve on their own try line and holding up the Swifts attackers. It was unfortunate for Kempston that they couldn’t shift this defence into go forward attack.

A great local derby played in the true spirit of the game.

Fantastic match day photos provided by Andrea at Moo Photography, catching all the action and passion of the afternoon, thank you!
