The 1st team put in the performance they have been looking for and the experience of the vets pulls them through against tough opposition

The 1st team were without a cup game this weekend as their opponents Birmingham Exiles pulled out due to limited numbers. A friendly match was arranged with local rivals Kempston to give the 1st team a run out.

The match started very well for Swifts, who managed to field their own kick off and with some great close quarters play, Gareth Tindall popped up to power over for the first score.

Swifts then took their foot right off the gas and let the Kempston team in to make it 7-5.

Swifts then went some phases of some very good play, and some very poor play. This inconsistency was not punished by their opponents though and they managed to weather the storm.

Swifts regained themselves and with some good work in the opposition 22, 2 scrums resulted in Luke Adde smashing through to touch down.

Ashley Mattin followed suit when he skinned their back line to dot down. Swifts were getting into their groove, and the pack were doing some good work with the tight play.

Charlie Palmer scored a fantastic try when he gathered the ball in his own half, skinned his opposite number and chipped through. Palmer had lots of work to do, but his natural pace took him past the covering defender to dive and score out wide.

The second half came and the Swifts boys felt a new sense of confidence, and this confidence was very much apparent when Peter Tyres ghosted past 3 Kempston defenders to score a lovely individual try.

Luke Adde popped up for another try with a lovely step to beat his man. The final try came through Harvey Rob John who took the ball off Luke Adde to score out wide.

Paul Robson was on form again this week, slotting 6 out of 7 conversions, the hardest being one wide out after Harvey Rob John had scored.

Final Score Bedford Swifts 47 - 15 Kempston

Overall, it was a very good performance against a team from a lover league. This intensity and the ability to identify the gaps on the blide side was starting to be seen, but at others white line fever and the inability to be pateitn butchered even more tries. This will come with more performances, and training is a must!

In the other game, the mighty Vets team edged out their Kettering Rivals 28-27, with Kettering needing to get the last kick of the match to win.

Well done to all teams involved this weekend! Lets crack on and turn these performances into meaningful ones in the league!
