The Tigers saw off a spirited Brentwood Eels fight to reach their third successive East Cup Final!

Having lost the past two visits to the East RL Cup final the Tigers will be hoping its third time lucky after Saturday's semi final win over Brentwood Eels.

The Eels certainly didn't make it easy for the Tigers though, and having already put St Ives Roosters out of the Cup they were after a second Premier scalp!

The opening 20 minutes were tough from both sides. Solid defence was causing problems for the attack of both teams and the greasy conditions didn't help! Handling errors forced by big tackling meant possession was changing hands regularly and after some sustained pressure the Eels broke the Tigers resolve and took a 4 - nil lead.

It was glaringly obvious that the Tigers would have to improve their discipline if they were to take control of the game.

The Tigers managed to level the scores through a barrelling run from Paul Ryder next to the posts, enabling a simple conversion from Ashton to take the lead. Khrys Speed scored his sixth try of the season out wide and a scrum play close to the Eels line provided the ideal platform for Lee Walker to grab a Tigers third try. Ashton landed the two conversions and landed a penalty goal on the stroke of half time to push the game that bit further away from Brentwood!

The fight that the Eels showed in the first half began to slip in the second period as the Tigers hogged possession. Scrum half Lee Walker was instrumental in pushing players around the field and creating a number of scoring opportunities. Will Norford was first to touch down in the second half, after a deft chip into the in goal area. This was followed by further scores from Ollie Fountain, Josh Spearing and a second from Ryder.

The most pleasing thing to see was probably the defensive effort throughout. to keep any side down to one try is a tremendous effort and the Tigers are really setting out their claim for silverware!

The Cup final is against Kings Lynn Black Knights at Pennine Way, Hemel Hempstead on July 11th
