The Eagles suffered a 3-4 defeat against a high-flying Leiston side. Despite going 2-0 up through Hugh Alban Jones and Rene Howe, Leiston pulled it back to 2-3 before half time. Connor Tomlinson equalised on the hour mark, but Leiston went back ahead minutes later and went on to win the match.
The Eagles took the lead within ten minutes thanks to a thunderbolt from Hugh Alban Jones. Connor Tomlinson went on a journey down the wing and played the ball to Callum Donnelly who laid it off to Hugh Alban Jones who mashed the ball into the top right corner to put Bedford ahead in style.
A matter of minutes later, it was two. The ball was played up the pitch to Connor Tomlinson who got away from the Leiston defenders. Tomlinson played the ball across to Rene Howe who calmly slotted in to get his first goal for the Eagles on his return.
With just under ten minutes to go until half-time, Leiston got one back. There was a cross from the left-hand side to Finlay Barnes who slammed the ball in off the crossbar to get one back.
Two minutes later, Leiston were level. A corner was whipped in and Ben Fowkes headed home to level the scoreline for the Blues before the fortieth minute.
To round off a torrid spell of the match for the Eagles, Leiston went ahead. This came after a cross from the left which Will Davies smashed home to complete the comeback in under ten minutes. Leiston went in at half time ahead.
The Eagles started to get back into the game in the second half with some chances coming and going for both sides.
As the momentum built, the Eagles finally got their goal on the hour mark. Hugh Alban Jones played a superb ball to Connor Tomlinson on the right wing, he cut into the box and finished brilliantly to score his thirteenth of the season.
Just as soon as the Eagles were back in the game, they went behind again. This came from a corner which found unmarked Jake Hutchings who headed in well to restore Leiston’s lead.
The game flared up at the end as tempers started to show. A few yellow cards were dished out at the end of the match and a red card was given to Adam Mills of Leiston after he shielded the ball from the Bedford players who wanted to take the throw-in. He then kicked the ball away, earning himself a red card. Seconds after this, the referee blew for full time.
A gutting defeat for Graeme Tomlinson’s Eagles who didn’t deserve to lose. Bedford remain in sixteenth place and just two points off the relegation zone having played more matches. Up next for the Eagles they travel up north to face llkeston Town.
