The Eagles were subject to another defeat as Redditch United left the Eyrie with three points on Good Friday. An early goal from Jack Byrne was enough for United as Bedford’s fate was all but sealed.
The game started well balanced with both sides looking good, but it was Redditch who got the early goal. A free kick was whipped in, and Jack Byrne was there to head United ahead.
Bedford did have some chances which came and went. Connor Furlong had a good chance when the ball was crossed across the box, but his wayward effort flew over the crossbar.
Max Sheaf almost doubled the lead for the away side in the twenty-fifth minute when he hit a venomous shot at Lewis Elsom’s goal. Luckily, Elsom had it covered as he tipped it around the post.
There were plenty of other chances for each side. Despite this, the score at half time meant Redditch went in 0-1 up.
Riley O’Sullivan had a good effort for Redditch in the second half forcing Lewis Elsom to make a great save. It was an end-to-end affair.
Ben Tompkins put in another great performance as he continues to impress Eagles fans and the Luton Town team. Long may this form continue!
Bedford piled on the pressure but it wasn’t quite enough as Redditch won 0-1. Fair play to Redditch who move into eighth.
Another defeat for the Eagles who have now been relegated from the Southern League Premier Division Central. Four games remain for the season as we travel to AFC Rushden & Diamonds on Monday.
