The Eagles were absolutely thrashed by local rivals AFC Rushden & Diamonds in an embarrassing defeat for Bedford. Two goals in each half for Diamonds extended the Eagles losing run to eleven games as the slump continues.
The game got off to a bad start for the Eagles, setting the tone for the match. Diamonds took the lead when Bedford gave the ball away in defence causing Mitchell White to be through on goal. His first shot was well saved by Lewis Elsom but he tucked away the rebound.
With only a few minutes until half time, Rushden had a second. Similar to the first, they cut Bedford open through the middle and Jenson Cooper finished well past Lewis Elsom to double Rushden’s advantage. The half time score saw Bedford leave the field 2-0 down.
Just six minutes into the second half, it was 3-0. An attack down the left wing caused Bedford some trouble. The ball across the box was finished well by Joel Anker to continue his brilliant form.
It was soon four just after the seventy-minute mark. A corner was whipped in which was looking dangerous but a flick on was well finished by Andy Mandjoba. This was the end of the suffering for Bedford as Rushden ran out 4-0 winners.
A completely unacceptable performance for the Eagles who make it eleven losses in a row. Join us in Cambridgeshire on Saturday when we travel to St Ives Town for the last away game of the season.
