This Saturday, Bedford Town are back in home league action as we welcome Wantage Town in the PitchingIn Southern League Division One Central. This match is the Eagles last home match of the year, although Gary Setchell's side do play an away fixture at The Eyrie the day after boxing day against our groundshare tenants, Biggleswade FC. Eagles strikers Rene Howe, Connor Tomlinson, Craig Mackail-Smith and Dan Walker have scored a combined 37 goals this season between them (17, 11, 6 and 3 respectively) and Tomlinson will be looking to score his 20th career goal for the Eagles this weekend.
The Alfredians have struggled in the league of late, currently sitting four points behind Kempston Rovers in 19th place. The Oxfordshire side's defensive record is the second lowest in the league, conceding 55 goals, only one lower than Kempston Rovers. Matt Biddle's side have however, already picked up three points at The Eyrie this season beating Biggleswade FC 2-1 back in September and their only other win of the season also came away from home against bottom of the table Colney Heath.
The only other meeting between the two sides was back in October 2019, the Eagles triumphant in a 6-0 win, with goals from Tom Hitchcock (2), Nathan Olukamni, Dan Walker, Brett Longden & Andrew Phillips.
