Christmas came, the goose got fat, eaten and leftovers made into a tasty Boxing Day buffet treat. Plants were pulled screaming from the ground to satisfy veggies, and all this leads up to the New Year a week later, and 1st January means a tasty fixture at the Eyrie as St. Neots Town come to town for the fifth time (twice against the Eagles and twice against Biggleswade).
Out of the two previous encounters this season, the first match, all the way back in August, resulted in a 3-0 win for Bedford in a feisty FA Cup encounter that saw each side lose a player to the red card. A month later, a more subdued match in the FA Trophy was also won by the hosts with an early goal.
St. Neots’ recent form hasn’t been good, with two heavy defeats to AFC Dunstable and Didcot Town, and a loss to Colney Heath. On the flip side, then top of the league, Berkhamsted were held to a 1-1 draw. The Saints currently lie in 13th place in the division with 28 points from 20 games with a zero goal difference.
Since losing to Berkhamsted in late November, the Eagles come into this match with four wins and two draws in their last six league games. Charley Sanders will be available for inclusion in the squad, and it was heartening to see Danny Setchell back on the pitch after his injury.
Congratulations must go to Stuart Copperwheat, winner of Renaldo’s Christmas Giveaway, and Stuart’s son Zac, who will escort Rene out on Saturday.
