Christmas Hangover for Dynamos
By Iain Willcocks
Explorers seal comfortable victory !
Dynamos 1-8 Explorers
Team: Edward, Jay; Ellis, Luca, George, Harry; Aiden, Max, Charlie, Jake, Kai, Dorian, Owen; Alfie
We generally start quite sluggish after the Xmas break and today was to prove no different.
Explorers exploded from the start with some nice passing and possession football, and not allowing Dynamos to get on the ball. 5 minutes in and their pressure told as they finished off a good move beating Edward from close range.
Within a minute it was 2-0 as they broke the offside trap and slotted the ball home with ease. 2-0 Explorers.
Luca and Harry were working hard at the back to stop any shots, Aiden and Ellis were providing the width to stop any attacks down the wings. However Explorers were a fantastic passing team and Dynamos were chasing the ball a lot in the first 15 minutes.
The first real chance for Dynamos fell to Owen after Max and Alfie combined to create an opening but his shot was straight at the keeper. It was a good move and seemed to wake Dynamos up.
Dorian was battling well in the middle, getting his foot in and tackling and he set up the next opportunity when he found Kai moving forward, he had a shot blocked and rebound fell to Alfie who missed the target.
22 minutes and Explorers scored again from a corner which wasn't cleared and their attacker poked it home from a couple of yards out.
As the half petered out Dynamos mustered up one last chance. This time a long throw from Edward found Max on the half way line, he controlled it well beat his player and played the ball over the top to Alfie who ran onto it and hit an unstoppable shot past the keeper. Dynamos had scored....was there a sniff of a chance for Dynamos !?!?
HALF TIME 3-1 Explorers
The second half started much the same and Explorers made it 4-1 to kill of the game after 38 minutes.
Dynamos, whilst clearly against an excellent team, did start to dig in. Ellis was gaining in confidence and started moving forward well. Dorian was still battling in the mix. Kai and Owen were both coming back to help out when they could too. Alfie also still looked like he could grab another goal if he had a chance.
48 minutes and Explorers broke through...out rushed Edward to make a very good save but the ball fell to another attacker, he smashed it towards goal only to find Edward flying through the air to stop it again....it then fell to another Explorers player who scored....how unlucky !
A couple of minutes later and it was 6-1. A gap appeared in the defence and was exploited immediately.
In the second half the wingers were having less joy which is mostly down to George and Ellis getting their tackles in and passing it well out of defence. Harry and Luca were also still clearing the waves of attacks.
Dynamos were still creating a few chances themselves. First Max played in Kai but his shot was saved and Alfie had a chance which went wide of the mark.
Next up Max went on one of his runs and very nearly scored with a shot which whistled over the bar from 20 yards out.
10 minutes to go and Dynamos were tiring and let in a soft goal from a goal kick which was a shame and then less than 60 seconds later Explorers made it 8-1 with a well taken shot from the edge of the area.
Dynamos rallied in the last 5 minutes with Charlie and Max combining to create a chance for Kai who hit his shot over the bar. No more than a minute later and Alfie nicked the ball and sent in a great cross and Kai was on the end of it but his first time shot went high and wide again. On another day he would have scored both.
Final score 8-1.
So...firstly Explorers were the best team we have faced (in my opinion). Well organised, good passing and clinical finishing. I will be surprised if they are not in the top 3 at the end of the season.
Onto Dynamos...maybe a Christmas hangover, but there were some positives out there. Today was a match where the defence was consistently threatened and they all played well. George grew as the match went on and made some timely interventions. Harry and Luca in the middle had their busiest match so far and worked well. Aiden had an excellent match when called upon and cleared well when in centre back or left back positions.
Alfie grabbed another goal and looked hungry for more and the final mention from me would be Ellis. He had an excellent winger against him and held his own, especially in the second half, moving forward and playing some great balls. We go again against Westwood Park next week.
