Sadly, at the end of 2017-18 season our lease expired and we have now had to move out of our home for the last forty years at Rectory Fields in Smarts Road. Fortunately we have support from Nicholas Chamberlaine School in Bulkington Road, which is where we have had a successful 2018-19 season gaining promotion to midlands 3 and our Extras winning the 2nd team shield. The aim is build a long term relationship with the school and re-establish first class rugby facilities on the site. In addition we will be contributing fully qualified and vetted coaches to assist the school to increase participation in the sport of rugby union at all school year groups and for both girls and boys. We are particularly keen on increasing female participation in the sport, not only for players but for those interested in coaching or refereeing and will offer fully supported and financed opportunities for anyone interested in getting involved. Our philosophy is to provide all comers with access to first class playing and coaching facilities regardless of age, gender or ability. In line with the values of rugby and the RFU, we foster an established set of core values and expect all members to adopt our code of conduct. In developing young players we aim to instill these values which in many cases will lead to life-long friendships and much, much more.

Of course, ambitions like these don’t get realised for free. We are a humble club with limited financial resources and given our current position we will have to work extremely hard to raise the funds to replace what we spent forty years acquiring but have now been forced to relinquish. Without the fantastic support of Nicholas Chamberlaine School and the Trustees of Griffin Schools Trust, we would have already gone out of existence which would have been a tragedy for the club, the town and its communities.
