Lots Of Positives To Take From Away Win...

Bedworth travelled to Dunlop RFC for their first pre season fixtures of the season in an early kick off of 11:30.

Having completed weeks of hard sessions with Fitness & Conditioning Coach Steve Hunter the squad went into the game in good spirits; knowing they were facing an outfit from the league above whilst also having the majority of the team overhauled & not having played a game together.

The game was split into 4 20 minute periods to ensure rotation & recuperation of all players; the first 20 minutes saw the game set of at a frantic pace with both team looking to make an impression. The pace & structure within these 20 caused headaches for both sides, with breakdown in play, handling areas & phases struggling at times. During these exchanges there were no doubt that the Warwickshire based team looked on top & more likely to break the deadlock. Some lovely interchanges between the backs allowed both wingers & full back to break free making marauding runs, clearly having the Coventry team on the ropes out wide - despite this the first 20 minutes remaining scoreless.

The second 20 saw wholesales changes to the team with fresh players being utilised - the game yet again started at a fast tempo, despite this Bedworth looked far more composed following the exchange of words at the interval. This work came to fruition when away side set up a rolling maul on the 22, driving their opponents back to the try line before dotting the ball over the whitewash for a well deserved try - conversion kicked.

This try was quickly followed up by another after some clever backs moves punched holes in the home sides defence, this eventually lead to Bedworth exploiting the gaps to run in a try under the post, again converted.

The 3rd 20 minutes again saw players & positional changes, the game became less fluid for the young Bedworth team as they tried to link up & structure attack & defence. Numerous chances were created & should have been taken, with forced handling errors making the difference. The away side did add to there tally when another powerful surge from the pack allowed them to crack over the line - conversion missed.

Final result 12-26

The last period of play saw the visitors score their final try of the game following some sublime combination phase play seeing forwards & backs link up - conversion kicked. Unfortunately for the away side it also saw them concede 2 try's following a period that showed a lack of discipline - some thing that will have to be curbed moving forward.

After the game Joint Head Coach Ryan Jenkins said 'This game was a perfect opportunity to see where the lads were at, they had the chance to play a team from the league above' he carried on 'Despite not playing with each other & only completing runs in training, the team looked threatening, especially in the backs where we had lots of positives'.

Lee Tonks Joint Head Coach finished off 'It's a great way to start pre season, we mustn't get carried away with ourselves - there's lots to work on, develop & put right before next week's game with Manor Park & our opening fixtures'.
