Belgrave confirm new Senior Backs Coach

Belgrave RFC are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Senior Backs Coach. Former 1st XV Captain and long-time servant of the club, Kevin Curtis, will join the coaching and management team alongside Dave Towl – Director of Rugby, Dave Johnson – Head Coach, Mark Deaville – Forwards Coach and James Bamber – Team Manager.

“Bungle” is a well-respected and popular figure around the club and brings over 10 years of 1st XV playing experience to the role, including being in the First XV Squad the last time Belgrave were in Midlands One. Kev unfortunately missed all of last season with a shoulder injury, which he is waiting for treatment on, but is chomping at the bit to start his new role.

Kev had the following comments on his appointment, “I am delighted to be back involved in the club which has a special place in my heart. The lads had a fantastic 2019/2020 season under the systems and structures that Dave and Mark have put into place. The club is now at a level where it belongs and I am excited at the prospect of being involved in the next chapter in the club’s journey. I can’t wait to get on the training pitch with all the lads where the hard graft really starts.”

Since his appointment as DOR Dave Towl has done a great job with new signings and re-engaging players from previous years, the appointment of Kev is a key part of this, providing a path way for an injured player to return to the fold in a coaching capacity. Dave has the following to say on Kev’s appointment, “At Belgrave RFC, we have historically always provided opportunities for our players to continue their rugby journey through coaching. The appointment of Kev is further proof that the club is committed to development from within, personally I was delighted Kev expressed an interest in the role. I am sure he will grow and improve as a coach within our experienced structure. “

Final comment comes from Head Coach Dave Johnson – “I would like to welcome Kev into the coaching set up. I am thoroughly looking forwards to mentoring him. His knowledge of the game through his vast experience of playing and captaining Belgrave First XV will stand him in good stead. I am also looking forward to Kev’s return to playing, as we miss his quality. This appointment adds to the strength of our Coaching and Management team and shows our intent to further the club’s development.”
