For the opening fixture of the season Vipers RFC founded in 1920 were visitors to Belgrave, not to be confused with the Vipers skiffle group founded in 1956 and broke up not long after having had several minor hits.
Due to injuries and other players not available Belgrave were somewhat under strength, with both Sean(quick thinking)Kyle and Kevin(bungle)Curtis being absent amongst others.
Taking their place and making their first team debuts were Elliot Walker and Connor Jackson son of Craig(mooney)Jackson,a burning question do I have to put in 2 bits of history for them or will 1 do for both of them. Please see me at next fixture.
The result turned out to be 15 point aside draw,2 scores by the Belgrave forwards, names not known and a last minute score by Joe(legohead)Pollard who ran from his own 22 to make the draw.
I am unable to give a fuller report on the proceedings as it was very difficult to see from the score box at Cropston Cricket Club where I happened to be at the time of the game,Beaumont Leys is in the way.
So as they used to say in the early days of BBC television in black and white and the only channel at the time "normal service will be resumed as soon as possible" and I will see you at next weeks fixture.Where my search for famous people will resume, along with reports of general goings on.
