Written by a man blown along with the leaves and unblocking drains

Today a home fixture against Melton Mowbray who are at present top the league with a 5 and 0 winning start.Walking along Abbey Lane to the ground with the wind blowing and the leaves swirling around I completed my annual task of unblocking the drains of said leaves and thereby saving residents of LE4 from a flood disaster,I do the same every year no floods as yet.Although it must be added I was nearly swept away by the crowds of people making their way to Belgrave Road to watch Keith Vaz open another sweet shop.
On arrival at the ground a large crowd,80 of which had sat down to the annual sponsors roast beef lunch.
The match official for the day Mr Josh Burgess holder of a law degree from Leicester University and works as a para legal executive in London.
On the kick off Belgrave attacked the road end and they took the intiative taking the game to Melton, after 10 minutes Kirk Harpin crossed the line from a rolling maul.Straight from the restart Belgrave scored again through Kevin(bungle)Curtis who charged down a kick and followed up to score as the ball rolled over the try line.Belgrave now in the lead by 2 scores.
Melton being top of the league came back as was to be expected and put Belgrave under massive pressure but the line held. With attack being the best form of defence,Joe(legohead)Pollard and Ashley Clarke both went on several long runs to keep Melton pinned inside their own 22, a penalty ensued and was duly scored.
The closing minutes of the first half saw Melton camped inside the Belgrave 22 but again the line held, halftime saw Belgrave in the lead by 15 points to nil.The start of the second half saw Melton take the game to Belgrave and they pulled back a penalty to put them on the scoreboard.Melton number 13 Matt Cox then gained the ball on the halfway line and sold a dummy so well that the Belgrave defenders, plus several people at the bus stop on Thurcaston Road fell for it and he was able to out run the defence to score.Matt Cox scored again from the rear of a rolling maul.
Belgrave were pinned inside their own 22 by a Melton attack when Joe Pollard turned the ball over made a run beating 3 players and brought the backs into play allowing Kevin Curtis to cross the line from a 30 yard run.Melton struck back with an 80 yard run outstripping the defence by James Wolley to tie the scores at 22 all with but a few minutes remaining.
In the final minutes both teams had chances to score but fell short, the final play a penalty to Belgrave from an acute angle some 30 yards out sailed inches wide.Final score Belgrave 22 Melton 22.A game in which no side deserved to lose,so a fair result all round.
From Bruce Ord the 2 Xmas meals will be on Saturday 12th December and Saturday 19th December so please get your order in soon, they sell out very quickly.A word of warning do not enter the garish braces contest John Goddard wins it every time.
Quote of the day from 8 year old William Kyle going around with collecting bucket for the juniors at half time, when conversation turned to the exploits of a well known local MP "So who is this Keith Vaz anyway I,ve never heard of him" next week an away fixture at Oadby/Wyggs.
A steady walk home through the leaves,I noted the phone box on Thurcaston Road had been booked for a support Keith Vaz meeting.Funny there was no one in it.See you next week.
