Written by a man that travelled too far East looking for Barbarossa and found a Jeremy Clarkson lookalike.

Today a trip to the East to the unbeaten Melton Rugby Club, with Wayne the navigator,I thought the trip took longer than usual on arrival at the ground the weather conditions were sub zero with a biting wind.I thought we had arrived on the Russian front in 1941 for Operation Barbarossa the German invasion of Russia that ended in disaster. One there for you Mooney, but no sign of Barbarossa a German emperor of many years ago.But much to my surprise there was a man at the bar who was a double for Jeremy Clarkson, luckily there was no slope on Meltons pitch.
The match official for the day Mr Louis Masseralla a land developer and has also been known to turn out for Ashby Folville Cricket Club.Roll on the season Louis at least it will be warmer.
On the kick off Belgrave attacked the houses end,Melton took the lead after 15 minutes with a pushover try scored by Marcus Badham,Belgrave struck back Joe(legohead)Pollard following up a Kevin(Bungle)Curtis kick over the top to put 5 points on the board.
A fine crossfield run by Meltons captain and coach Gareth Collins(of whom we shall hear more of later) drew in the Belgrave defence allowing Adam Broughton to score.Melton lead by 12 to 5.
Belgrave then put the ball through the backs Ashley Clarke scoring in the corner,Melton were backed up on their own line an attempted clearing kick was blocked and Joe Pollard followed up to score his second try of the half. The half time score being Belgrave 17 Melton 14.An ominous sign for Belgrave after last week.
Belgrave took the attack to Melton at the beginning of the half and were camped on their line,2 yellow cards were handed out and Melton were down to 13 men.Belgrave failed to take advantage of the situation and could not score. After this this the Belgrave game imploded, thats the opposite of exploded only you do it yourself.
Melton came back at Belgrave with a great team effort and kept them under constant pressure crossing the line from all angles. There were scores for Adam Broughton,Gareth Collins and Phil Cowley. My hands were too cold to write down the others.Wheres that Barbarossa when you need him.Final score Melton 41 Belgrave 17.
After the match a presentation by Meltons captain Gareth Collins a man of great alacrity, who is teacher of games and psychology at a Grantham School.I wonder how many have had to google alacrity and I failed my 11 plus.
The man of the match match for Melton Adam Broughton, for Belgrave Tom Knifton who drank the beer the fastest. Thanks for the round of applause for me Gareth,I have had bigger ones, but that's when I'm being paid and the audience is bigger. But all contributions gratefully accepted.
An extra passenger on the way back Ben(I've got a hangover)Austin, brother of Lewis Austin the one with dodgy haircut. Both LE4s answer to the Kray Brothers.
A mention for the second team and their valiant effort against the odds and the numbers, but at least you turned up,from your captain Mr Crumbie its snowing at Copt Oak.
On the way back I thought we had come too far to the East, there were frozen bodies of dead German soldiers at the side of the road.On arrival at LE4 a hot meal,a bottle of red wine and a viewing of "Sea of Sand" circa 1958 starring Leicesters own Dickie Attenborough,John Gregson and Michael Craig.A film about the Long Range Desert Group and the defeat of Rommel and the Afrika Corp.Thats enough to warm anybody up.
From Kirsty the stitcher,on Thursday 25th Feb she is doing an open treatment session that's if she is not looking after dogs and horses. So if you need a treatment contact Kirsty and she will book you in.
Next week a home fixture against Oadby/Wyggs 2.15 kick off,it is also the Vice Presidents Lunch, please contact Cliff or Bruce if you need tickets, there are some spare the Waffen SS have had to cancel, frozen off at Melton.See you next week.
