Written by a man freezing cold, who came home with more than he went with and from a different direction.

Today a home fixture against Old Laurentians, here in after known as O/Ls in this report as its a lot to type out. They are at present 3rd in the league having only lost once this season.
Today is also the 40th birthday of that Belgrave stalwart Dave Towl born in 1977,an event that did not set the world on fire and a good job too as the firemans strike was at its height. But the Queen had her silver jubilee in his honour.
The match official for the day Mr Bower of Coalville who informed me that there was snow on the ground there, hence why it was so cold at Belgrave. On the kick off Belgrave defended the clubhouse end.
Belgrave went ahead on 2 minutes a low kick through from his own half by Sean(quick thinking)Kyle was followed up by Jamie(the cobra)Crumbie ,the ball took a Belgrave bounce and his words "hit me straight in the bread basket" he gathered the ball shook off a couple of defenders and crossed the line to score. This was converted by Kevin(bungle)Curtis to Belgrave in the lead by 7 points to nil. This was followed by a period of sustained pressure by Belgrave resulting in Curtis slotting over a penalty from 30 yards out.
O/Ls struck back when Dominic Hammond scored a converted try, kicker Samuel Whyte put 3 points on the board to level the scores at 10 all after 15 minutes. He also missed 2 kicks which let Belgrave off the hook.O/Ls then took the lead when full back Tom Waterkeyne scored and new kicker John Bean converted.Half time saw O/Ls in the lead by 17 points to 13.
The second half started to become physical and Mr Bower sin binned Jack Kyle and Kevin Curtis together with an O/Ls player 14 now played 13.Play was very even at this time both teams slowing the game down.As both teams got back to full strength Belgrave went on the attack but fumbled the ball,O/Ls number 11 Luke Townsend took his chance picked up the ball and cut through the defence to score under the posts putting them in the lead by 24 points to 13.
The Belgrave forwards started to take charge with evergreen veteran Ivan Wright leading the way, from a 5 yard scrum the ball came to Gary(G man)Chikopa who crashed over to score.A game changing decision O/Ls prop number 2 was sent off and number 11 sent to the sin bin,15 now played 13 for the next 10 minutes and Belgrave took full advantage.A rolling maul saw Liam (the dj) Barnes drop onto the ball to score, another attack with Elliot Walker making ground up the middle he created a gap and passed to Jack(splatt)Warren who was following up and duly scored.
Belgrave were now able to keep the ball with their forwards and pinned O/Ls pack inside their own 5 yard line, following several scrum offences Belgrave were awarded a penalty try. With the game clock running down O/Ls scored a final try to make the final score Belgrave 39 O/Ls 31.A 5 point bonus win for Belgrave and a hard fought losing bonus for O/Ls
A chilli and chips from the ladies of the kitchen,a club tie presented to newcomer Jamie Gray and the men of the match Ivan(evergreen veteran)Wright and Elliot Walker.
Much drinking and dancing for Dave Towls 40th,a top ten hit in 1977 for Rod Stewart "tonights the night, gonna be alright" well it was for most people but not me.Tripped up on the carpark and finished up in casualty 5 stitches in my head.I was sure I saw Lewis Austin vanishing into the night, but perhaps not.
Next week an away fixture at Olney, see you there.
