Written by a man who arrived on a wing and a prayer, got back without a prayer, but is worried for the residents of Birstall

Today an away fixture at Old Laurentians hereafter being called OLs it cuts down on the typing.A steady drive there with Liam(redmist)Barnes,Louis(doddy)Summers,Gary(g man)Chikopa and Peter(the pastor)Petra. On arrival welcomed by mine host Mr Dave Eales, who for some reason remembered me,no idea why.Good work by Abbey Walker and Helen Simpson in the kitchen for providing an excellent lunch 10 out 0f 10 for the home made crumble with custard.
The match official for the day Mr Stuart Turnbull an account director in his day job.
On the kick off Belgrave attacked the field end for the opening minutes play was very even with neither side able to gain the intiative. After 10 minutes a kick over the top into the OLs half by Jack Kyle was picked up by Niall(right place right time)O'Conner who made for the try line but was brought down inches short of a score. This move gave Belgrave the advantage they needed and the pinned OLs inside their 5 yard line.
A Belgrave scrum saw Tom Ball pick up the ball and power over to score taking several defenders with him.The conversion was added by Kevin(bungle)Curtis. Both sides continued to play open flowing rugby, but neither could convert this into points.A yellow card for Tom(my bodies in pieces)Knifton for a tackle more akin to the ITV world of sport circa 1960s what Kent Walton would have said I do not know. One there for the older readers.
On 40 minutes Sean(quick thinking)Kyle kicked over the top and Kevin Curtis following up scored. The OLs then put the Belgrave line under pressure for the rest of the half and were unlucky not to score, outstanding Belgrave defence kept them out.Half time the score stood at Belgrave 12 OLs 0.
Famous people at the ground Chris and Lorna Gray parents of Jamie(50 shades of)Gray who travelled from Teignmouth in Devon to be with us,plus his partner Ida Wigdehl from Norway who has failed to find any Trolls to play for Belgrave.Leave it with me I will get the Austin Brothers to fill in.
The second half the OLs took the game to Belgrave,Robby Bunn kicked a penalty to earn them 3 points.Desperate defending by Belgrave saw yellow cards for Liam(red mist)Barnes and Elliot Walker. Two massive 70 yards plus clearing kicks by Keven Curtis relieved the pressure. He then put 3 points on the board with the boot.
OLs continued to attack,Belgrave then gained the ball on their own 5 yard line and with 15 man running and driving rugby got to the OLs 5 yard line. All please take seat for this next bit.
In the closing seconds the ball came to Jack Kyle who from 20 yards out scored a drop goal, his first ever and possibly his last.Final score OLs 3 Belgrave 18.A hard fought encounter.
For the journey home we lost Peter(the pastor)Petra so no prayers. On arrival back at the Tom Hoskins I found the dreaded Austin Brothers along with a dozen of their associates who could only be described a as very shady and very dubious. Some with dodgy haircuts. They informed me they were off to a house party in Birstall and left the premises. As of this moment there has been no news of the goings on,but there is no smoke over Redhill Roundabout so all may be well.
Next week a home fixture where Oakham RFC will be the visitors with a 3pm kick off.I hope to see you there.
